Talking Balls

Sunday, 27th Mar 2016

The show raised an incredible £5,500 for the ultimate benefit of DAFC and will be added to the PST’s fund raising pot for the next big cheque presentation in the near future.

Around 500 people packed in to the Glen Pavilion on Tuesday night for the latest fund raising initiative presented by the Pars Supporters’ Trust. ‘Talking Balls’ should have been a live version of the popular BBC Radio Scotland football show ‘Off the Ball’ but unfortunately, Stuart Cosgrove, one half of Scottish footballs’ odd couple, had to call off with illness on the morning of the event leaving the shows other regular presenter Tam Cowan to ‘fly solo’ for the evening.

Tam explained “Stuart had actually been feeling poorly when we did our radio show last Saturday and regular listeners might recall he was the butt of a few jokes as a result, but as the days have gone by he’s been feeling worse and has now been confined to bed by the doctor as he’s suffering from shingles! Stuart is a real workaholic and it takes a lot to keep him down so I know he’s absolutely gutted he can’t be here tonight”.

However, Stuart’s absence didn’t detract too much from a fantastic evening’s entertainment as Tam treated the crowd to a hilarious first half comprising a 45 minute stand-up routine. After the interval, Tam was joined on stage by former Pars managers Jimmy Calderwood and Jim Leishman, with Hearts all time goal scoring record holder John Robertson for chat show style interviews. Even Club legend Roy Barry was involved, being invited on stage to draw the winning raffle tickets and present the prizes.

Drew Main, PST Vice-Chair, commented “We can’t thank all of the shows participants enough for coming along and giving up their time for free tonight especially when you consider some of them have travelled a fair distance to be here. Obviously we were disappointed to learn that Stuart was ill and couldn’t make it, and we wish him a speedy recovery, but Tam, being the true professional he is, didn’t bat an eyelid and made sure the evening was a huge success for us. We might keep him to his offer though of coming back to Dunfermline, this time with Stuart once he’s fit and well!”

The show raised an incredible £5,500 for the ultimate benefit of DAFC and will be added to the PST’s fund raising pot for the next big cheque presentation in the near future. The next PST fund raiser is their popular golf day at Dunfermline Golf Club on 29th April.
