The Final Fight

Kerr Young has made 25 appearances for Dunfermline this season but his start on Saturday against Stranraer was only his third since the end of January. Speaking exclusively to the website the 20 year old central defender said:-

"It has been frustrating but I have just kept on trying to do my best to get in the team. It was the gaffer's decision to leave me out but once we got second place I came back in."

As Jim Jefferies used the depth in his squad against Ayr United and against Rangers, Kerr had the chance to show just how much he wanted to be back in the team. He made sixteen starts prior to Christmas playing in partnership with Callum Morris but when he returned to the side it was alongside his under 20s partner last season Lewis Martin and the 20s coach John Potter:-

"Obviously against Rangers Potts helped us out at the back and then on Saturday everyone was good. When you have them playing next to you it helps and having someone like Ryan Scully behind you it makes it so much easier.

"It was a team performance where you couldn't single anyone out. It was a good performance all round and that's because everyone is fighting for places for the final. If Callum Morris and Jonathan Page were playing they would be doing exactly the same."

Kerr played in the Ramsden Cup victory over play off opponents Cowdenbeath back in July and he recalled:-

"We beat them 3-1 but they have been on a good run and have a few good players who could cause us trouble. If we play as we can play we should beat them. We need to keep it tight and get them back to East End Park still in the final and on a bigger pitch."

Sunday's second leg has the makings of a very special occasion and Kerr hopes that there is another big and effective crowd like the one against Stranraer last Saturday:-

"The fans were brilliant and from the pitch there looked like far more than 4000. Their support gives you that extra man and helps you out."
