Victory in second match in the St Andrews Tournament for the Fife Youth Cup. Two goals for Calum Smith, one more for McDonough.

DUNFERMLINE 3 BURNTISLAND SHIPYARD 1

Another match in the Fife Youth Tournament and another three goals. Only a goal a minute into added time let the Pars down in a game where they dominated throughout.

It wasn't the same lightning start as against Raith on Monday night but it was not long before the shots were going in on target. The fourth minute creation by Derek Howie and Gary Leighton supplied Calum Smith with an early chance but he failed at the near post. It was 15th minute before the tall striker got the next opportunity when Patrick Halpin's ball in from the left just evaded the striker's long legs and the Shipyard keeper came to the rescue.

Next Howie sent Sean Muhsin down the right and his delivery into the six yard box saw Williamson and Smith get in each others way and the chance was gone. In 17 minutes Muhsin dropped deep to receive Halpin's corner in from the right and he unleashed a fine shot from 18 yards that only the right post kept out.

While all the fine interlinking Dunfermline play had failed to produce the opener, it was a simple Halpin cross from the left 20 minutes that secured the first goal for SMITH who merely stuck out a leg six yards out to turn the ball into the bottom right of the Burntisland goal. At the other end the bright orange kitted keeper Paterson got his first touch of the game in 23 minutes but this was only a back pass!

Iain Williamson went on a penetrating run that took him to the right touchline from where he turned the ball back for Muhsin to thump in a good shot which unfortunately swerved into the keeper's hands. Just before the break Halpin and Maxwell exchanged passes twice on the edge of the Burntisland area but failed to alter the scoreline.

Kris Maxwell did have a role in the second goal, however, receiving a pass from Smith he despatched a great attempt that the fully outstretched keeper stopped but SMITH followed up to give Dunfermline a cushion just nine minutes into the second half.

A third goal came courtesy of a fine finish from substitute Alan McDonough, converting a Halpin cut back with considerable style. McDonough, Maxwell and McBride all had chances to increase the tally but it was the opposition who snatched a consolation, one minute into added time, when their substitute found himself with only Greg Paterson to beat. The keeper had little chance but he was called upon in the following minute to make his first save of the match a minute later from the Shipyard centre forward after his defence had switched off.

A comfortable win but there is still East Fife and Cowdenbeath to play over the next two nights. Only a shoulder injury to Calum Smith after he fell heavily, should give Hamish French any selection worries.
