Youth given a chance against the Rovers

2-1

MATCH PICTURES
Dunfermline Under 20s played their second friendly in four days but it was a very youthful side that turned out against the Super League junior side, Ballingry Rovers at Ore Pak on Thursday.

First good chance of the evening came in ninth minute after Cammy McLair`s pass sent Scott Gray in on the left side of the Ballingry box but the keeper was out quicker than Scott could release his shot. Another Pars chance two minutes later fell to Lewis Spence but again the keeper pulled off the save.

Cammy McClair and Scott Mercer

The home side retaliated with two equally good opportunities of their own. A twelfth minute free kick was headed into Ryan Goodfellow`s hands by former Par Steven Leslie. Then Lee Bryce drove an inviting ball through the Pars box and out beyond the far post.

For the visitors, Scott Mercer`s free kick required to be fisted out by the keeper and Spence drilled the follow up powerfully on target but it was deflected behind.

Declan OKane and John McDiarmid

In 19th minute a Ballingry break down the left was cut back for Adam MOFFAT and after his first effort was blocked the veteran netted the rebound. 1-0

A quickly taken Mercer free kick in 24 minutes, set up Spence but again the keeper saved. Next McLair prodded another useful ball forward for Gray to run on to but his dangerous cross was booted clear.  Then an unfortunate mistake in midfield allowed Ballingry to break. Bryce gained ground down the left and his delivery beat Goodfellow with a delft flick from striker John McDIARMID. 2-0

Ten minutes from the interval Reece Duncan dispossessed his marker in the home box but his left footed shot was a vital split second too slow to prevent being blocked.

Half Time: Ballingry Rovers 2 Dunfermline 0

John Potter`s young team started the second half with real grit and determination that was not always to the liking of the home team. Gray has an early chance but failed to get his shot away quick enough.

Gavin Paterson v Ballingry
Gavin Paterson

Gavin Paterson`s net bound shot was diverted for a corner off the back of a defender and then in 70 minutes McClair sent a screamer of a shot narrowly wide. The attacking flair was applied by both Drummond and Paterson but it was a marauding run from Declan O`Kane that won the Pars a free kick on the edge of the box. The five man Ballingry wall did its job on Mercer`s stinging shot.

When Johnny Galloway had a strong shot deflected behind for a corner and Mercer sent that over the keeper parried and the Pars, Brandon LUKE one of two 14 year old subs, followed up to net. There were eleven minutes remaining and in the rapidly fading light the Pars continued to push for what would have been a worthy equaliser.

Brandon Luke celebrates his goal

Cammy Gill made a fine save to deny former Raith striker Bryce so there were to be no more goals for either team. Dunfermline were definitely the better team in the second period but ended up losing to a bigger and stronger side.
