As every Pars report starts these days, Dunfermline had a young side out. Their opposition was Falkirk in a SPL U 20 league match played at Stirling University on Thursday afternoon. Any chance of this being a spectacle was spoiled by the strong wind.

Scott Mercer supplied Gavin Paterson with a good chance early on but they were to lose their central defender Lewis Martin and a reshuffle was required. Declan O' Kane dropped back into defence and Lewis Spence came into the midfield.

There were efforts at both goals but none that were able to beat the keepers and they changed ends with clean sheets.

Half time: Falkirk 0 Dunfermline 0

Two minutes into the second half Gooodfellow had to save a free kick from Craig Comrie. Mercer created most of the Dunfermline ammunition but still failed to beat Bowman. Gavin Paterson cleared off his line before Mercer set up Thomas James but Bowman saved.

Eight minutes from time Liam DICK was left unmarked and fired home from just inside the box from a corner on the right. The Pars were reduced to ten men when Gavin Paterson was rather harshly shown yellow twice in the space of four minutes.

Coach John Potter was pleased with the performance of his team for some it was their second outing in three days.

"They worked so hard. Falkirk had a lot of the ball but weren't allowed to create that much. It was disappointing to lose a goal from a set piece but the boy knows that he made a mistake.

"It was our youngest under 20 team ever. It was great experience for them to learn and play. We came into it in the second half, Scott Mercer had a couple of chances, and there was a shout for a penalty.

"Ryan Goodfellow was excellent especially in the second half. Sometimes goalkeepers don't get the credit - he had three or four great saves, his kicking was good, he was assured and spoke really well. To have somebody like him in playing with the younger ones it is good because he talks all the time and organises which is good for a goalkeeper. He is disappointed because he lost a goal but he can be pleased with his performance."
