Wallace happy to battle for place

Ryan's six of the best, all as super sub

One might have expected a striker to be far from satisfied with appearances off the bench but Ryan Wallace has now scored all six of his goals this season as a substitute. His two goals against Forfar Athletic on Saturday came after his introduction as a 74th replacement for Faissal El Bakhtaoui.

"First and foremost I was happy to get three points and some minutes under my belt. It was nice to get the goals, I just hope that we can continue the winning run that we are on at the moment.

"The first one got a bit stuck under my feet, I thought I had missed it but I was lucky enough to hit the post and it went in. The second one I sclaffed a wee bit but it managed to hit the sidenetting. I will do anything I can to get us three points for the team to get us where we need to be."

Ryan has started only four games and sorely wants to start but recognises that it is up to the manager to pick the team:-

"I am quite happy coming off the bench at the moment and scoring goals. If it puts a doubt in the manager's head to play me next week, I really don't know. I just have to go about my business, keep a good attitude and work hard in training and games."

The Man of the Match award went to Ryan and it was the first that he can recall receiving at East End Park since joining from East Fife for season 2012-13:-

"I was quite surprised getting that for twenty minutes play. It was nice, I wasn't expecting that, I asked who picked that? I could have picked another couple of boys. I thought Shaun Byrne and Andy Geggan were brilliant today."

All this comes as a great relief to the 25 year old who at one stage last season feared his football career might have been over.

"I am just happy to be back. After a year and a half out injured I just couldn't get back to fitness - I had two stress fractures one on my hip and one on my lower back and a double hernia before that. It is great to be back and scoring goals."

Ryan noted that Faissal El Bakhtaoui is on 15 goals, Michael Moffat 8 and Joe Cardle took his tally to ten with the second goal against Forfar.

"If you look round on the bench, there is Mickael (Antoine-Curier), there is me, even David Hopkirk has come into the team and he is scoring goals as well. There is a lot of competition there. It will be interesting to see what the manager does, he has a lot of questions if boys are champing on his door saying can we play? That is the way it goes in football, you need to bide your time and get on with it."
