Whittle happy to be left back

Saturday, 28th Sep 2013

"Every game is a tough game obviously but I think we've been playing well enough to beat every team.

ALEX WHITTLE

Pars left back Alex Whittle is confident that he will recover in time to be available for selection against Ayr United on Saturday:-

"I should be ok, I'll see how it is. Every game is a tough game obviously but I think we've been playing well enough to beat every team. We just need to take our chances in the final third, but I think we've been playing well as a team."

The Liverpudlian would dearly like the match to be more comfortable for the home fans who have seen their side stage late shows in their last two home games to lift maximum points:-

"We've been involved in some close games but we've created a lot of chances, so hopefully on Saturday we could win something like 4-0 and everybody will be a lot happier - even the fans won't have nervous tension towards the end of the game if we did that, so hopefully we can get a result."

Alex Whittle v Falkirk

The 20 year old was Jim Jefferies first signing after becoming Dunfermline Athletic manager, signed on a pre contract in April 2012. After adapting to playing left back following the void left by injury to Stephen Jordan, Alex became one of the Pars most important players towards the end of last season. He is full of praise of the team spirit at Dunfermline and for his new role:-

"All the lads get on well and everyone is a similar age, from 18 to 23 minus Geggs (Andy Geggan) and Dargs (Craig Dargo), so there's been a good team bonding amongst the group.

" I do like it at left back. I get to go forward so I can't really complain, and I think I'm doing alright. I played left wing back a few times but I hadn't really played just left back, but when the gaffer put me in there I did quite well.

"To be fair, it's become my new position now so hopefully I can keep improving there. People always say that a lot of wingers change to be a full back, so that could be the same with me - like a little Jordi Alba or something!"

ALEX WHITTLE

Alex and his team mates just want to keep the pressure on Rangers and believe that they can beat Rangers. Doing that at Ibrox would be something to talk about!

"I watched the Rangers game on Sunday and I thought Forfar were unlucky to be fair, it was a mistake that cost them. Obviously we've got Rangers in two weeks so if we can beat Ayr and then Forfar it gives us a good run to go into the Rangers game. The confidence would be high playing in front of 50,000 people, so we've just got to play our game. You never know, I think we could get a good result there. Teams show them too much respect - they are obviously a massive club but all the lads are confident that we can beat them and we'll see what happens."
