JMc:- “I will not say that we don’t want to add as much as we can by way of the quality.

Dunfermline currently have four players on loan at the KDM Group East End Park and manager James McPake is hoping that they remain there until the end of the season. The Pars loans are currently Dundee’s Sam Fisher, Dundee United’s Chris Mochrie, Rangers Kane Ritchie-Hosler and Robbie Mahon from Motherwell and it is the time of year when their own clubs might invoke recall clauses. The manager explained:-

“That’s the danger when players come and do well, their parent club may look at them. It’s the same if you have a player who is doing well, other clubs might look at them. The loan clubs seem happy, the players are getting game time. Robbie Mahon would be the one who might be a bit disappointed but I still believe that he will get games between now and the end of the season.

“At the minute this is the right club for those players. As I say they are getting exposure, they are getting games and they are adding a lot to our squad so hopefully we can keep them all.”

Sam Fisher (19) has probably benefited with 13 starts and 2 sub appearances, twenty year old Kane Ritchie-Hosler has broken into the team of late and has made six appearances so far. Chris Mochrie (19) has made 18 appearances of which all but three were starts and Irishman Robbie Mahon four appearances only one of which was a start.

Asked if there was room for any more the gaffer’s swift reply was “absolutely”. The criteria has not changed:-

“We will go for quality again. We do get offered a lot of players and the first thing to consider is are they going to improve us? That has to be in terms of a footballer and then, is it going to help us in terms of the personality? These are the key things we look for and that might change come Monday if we get a couple of knocks.

“If everybody comes through it and Kevin O’Hara is back, Miller Fenton is back and Paul Allan is not far away again, you would weigh everything up. I will not say that we don’t want to add as much as we can by way of the quality.

“Also we are realistic in the league that we are in with the budget that we have, it has to be right for the football club. I think the signings that we made so far are ones, we knew of their footballing ability and personality. For me the personality is not the biggest thing because if it was then you would say ‘sign anybody who is a great guy’.

“It goes hand in hand and you can get it wrong. As a coaching staff, we have got it wrong before with bringing in people who can upset a group. We are big on that as every manager will say. I have been in that position before when you just feel that you need fresh players in and fresh ideas but we are in a good position in with where our squad is at.

“It is not a case of cherry picking or hand picking but we have targets, they are quality players but equally they are good people and that is so important. It is important that we don’t upset the way we work.

“That is not to say that it’s our way or no way but we have a good atmosphere here between players, staff and supporters. If we keep working as hard as we can, regardless of the results out there, I think the fans are aware of just how hard the players are working for the football club going forward. That will help the players and me going forward.”
