Fifers ready for Friday night fight

Pars captain warns that they need to start the game well with good intensity and immediately put Dundee United on the back foot

After showing up well in the first leg, Callum Morris hopes to leave Tannadice victorious.

“We had the chances, I cannot think of United having many. Robbo has made one good save and I remember Scott Fraser putting one past the post but apart from that I cannot remember anything else they really created.

“We created some good chances and the keeper pulled off some great saves. Ashy going off kind of changed it a bit but I think we were resolute, dug in and the whole team played well as a unit. They did not cause us many problems at all to be honest.

“The game changes when you go down to ten men, just to keep a clean sheet was the main task in hand then. We did that and I think we are full of confidence going up there.”

With Lee Ashcroft’s sending off and United bringing on forwards, Callum felt that it was important to keep composure, concentrate and keep tight as a unit. Players found themselves playing out of position, Fraser Aird at right back. Lewis Martin moved inside from left back and Declan McManus ended up playing right wing.

“We needed to make sure that we communicated well and stuck to our task which we did do. You have to react to these things in a positive way. Obviously it is not ideal but the game goes on and you just have to deal with it.”

The Pars captain warned that they need to start the game well with good intensity and immediately put Dundee United on the back foot:-

“It is an away game and they will have a big support themselves but I was in the club shop and the tickets were all sold out. It is not a bad sign.

“We are full of confidence going into the game, we know what we have to do and we know that we are capable of doing. We will go up there and give it our all.”

Callum laughed off Csaba László’s suggestion that Dunfermline were favourites:-

“That is a poor attempt at reverse psychology. They are difficult to beat up there, they always have been. We don’t worry about that kind of thing.

“We are in good form, winning games with good performances so we will only worry about ourselves. If we do what we know we are capable of doing I believe that we will go up there and do the job.”

Most would have hoped for a first leg lead but now it’s a cup final and winner takes all.

“It gives you licence to give everything which you should do anyway. People say that we haven’t beaten them but on the flip side there is no better time to beat them. If we can take all the positives from the games against them this season and convert that into positive energy going into this game, it will stand us in good stead and give us a boost going into the game.

“Everyone is buoyant after Tuesday. It has been a rollercoaster of a season after starting so well, we have had a wee dip and now coming on strong.

“Now that we have hit the target of the play offs, we want to go further, push on and make new targets and goals.”
