Saturday, 12th Nov 202212/11/22: JM - “The performance was nowhere near the standard that they have set and that which we demand.
“The goals conceded” was James McPake’s summation of what went wrong in the match against Clyde:-
“We were lucky to get a point out of the game. Of course I am disappointed with the goals that we conceded. You can’t paper over two ridiculously bad goals to lose.”
You made a couple of changes at half time, what were you looking for from the introduction of Nikolay Todorov and Kane Ritchie-Hosler?
“A bit of energy. I thought Kane gave us that, he looked good in the second half with a bit of energy and composure on the ball. He was good. Todorov - we were two goals down, so we needed a striker on the pitch.”
It was Kane’s cross after an impressive run up the right wing that created the situation that led to the first penalty?
“I have not seen them back but the first one looked like a push, the second one does look like a hand ball I don’t know how high his hand was. If it was in a natural position it is not a penalty. If he lifts it it was but I’d need to see it back.”
Kyle Benedictus did the job with two unstoppable spot kicks?
“Yes, two high pressure penalties, particularly in the position that we were in but it shouldn’t take that.”
The manager was deeply disappointed to lose but pointed out it is not just that:-
“You lose games, that is part and parcel of football. You draw games but you have got to perform, you have got to work harder than the opposition and I don’t think we did that today.
“The stats will maybe come in and say that we did, but to the naked eye we didn’t work hard enough. We didn’t believe enough in what we were doing and that’s what’s disappointing. That’s probably the first time that we can say that about that team.
“They just looked like they just had to turn up and beat Clyde today. That’s what is disappointing for me because that’s not the way. Credit to Clyde and Jim Duffy, they were the better team.
“I thought we started okay in the first ten minutes and then Clyde were by far the better team for most of the game until late on. It is easy to play when you are 2-0 down, I have been that person.
“Look, we stole a point today. I am the one that moans when teams come here, sit in and steal a point but we got out of jail by getting a point. It is the performance that annoys me the most. The performance was nowhere near the standard that they have set and that which we demand. It was really poor.”
