Thommo upfront about ambitions

Friday, 5th Dec 2014

Ryan Thomson has made 131 appearances for Dunfermline which is quite a feat given that he is only 23 years old.

Ryan hopes to add to that number of Saturday against a team he played against five times last season scoring twice.

"I scored against them in the cup to win through to play Rangers. It was quite a big game but it would be nice to play against them this year, that's obviously as long as I play. I hope to stay in the team; I have just got back into it and I'd like to get a run going to get my fitness back up proper.

"It was hard at the start of the season and you get frustrated. I got back into the team and doing not bad, scored a goal but then got an injury. I do not want to be injured but when I pulled my groin I was out for just over a month and then when you come back it is another three or four weeks before you get back in. I am back now and hopefully I am in on Saturday."

Thommo's return has been helped by a run in the 20s who have now won six games in a row. He continued:-

"I went into the 20s at a point where there were a few of the first team boys were playing. We were playing good football and it was an enjoyable team to be playing in."

Andy Stirling came back in the 20s alongside Ryan who added:-

"As each game came I felt stronger and fitter and I felt that I gave the manager a bit of a selection problem. We need to kick on and show the rest of the league we are favourites for a reason.

Thommo was played as striker on Saturday although his favoured position is central midfield.

"The way football works you need to go and play in other positions. I am lucky that I can play a couple of other positions. With big Gozie being injured it made sense for me to be played upfront to give us a presence. The gaffer knows that if the team needs it, I am happy to play upfront.

Last season Ryan scored six goals but this year his tally is just one - that was against Stenhousemuir on 13th September.

"I have not played much this year. I wasn't very happy with six last year because I had scored twelve or thirteen the previous year. If I can get a run of games going hopefully I can start scoring again."
