Points to put it right

Pars punished for not taking their chances: Lee Ashcroft feels the game should have been won before Falkirk had their chance.

Captain Lee Ashcroft was bitterly disappointed to lose to Falkirk on Saturday and in particular in a similar fashion to which they lost the November meeting against the same opposition. Such results have also occurred in several other games at home this season, something that Lee accepts is not good enough:-

“That has been the story of our season, in a lot of games that has happened here. There is not much I can say about it really. We should have won the game, we never, we got beat 1-0 and Falkirk are away the happy team. It is a blow and we need to get our fingers out in these last three games.”

Although they have 41 points, Dunfermline are still one of six teams that could be relegated. Even with the five teams below them playing each other in three fixtures it would be possible for all of them to exceed 41 points if they started, or in most cases continued, to win games. Lee continued:-

“Teams below is are picking up points and we are in a situation that we should never be in. We now have three tough games left and make sure that we get points in these last three games.”

Midway through the second half on Saturday, Lee met a free kick launched in from in front of the Falkirk dugout and he was desperately unlucky with his headed effort. He commented:-

“I thought it was in all the way, Higgy said the same behind me. I was away celebrating before it went in but it hit the post and came back out. That summed up our day with the amount of chances we had. We maybe should have been a goal or two up before they even got a chance.

“Their chance was really their only chance of the game. To be fair to them they took it but that has been the story of our season, we have not taken our chances and teams have gone on and punished us later in the game. It has happened more than once and we need to get that sorted.”

The scenes of rival Falkirk fans celebrating another win at East End Park is not one that the Pars players and fans enjoyed. Lee:-

“We have had two wins each and personally I think we should have won the four of them. It was the same kind of story the last time they came to East End, they scored a late winner from a shot from the edge of the box and got a result with that as well.

“It is not good enough on our part, it should have been wrapped up and we should have had the game won before they had their chance. We need to move on from it and hopefully go and put it right in these last three games.”
